Lineage & Foundation
Every sanctuary stands on something.
LaVon Purpose is rooted in the wisdom and care of Black women, whose knowledge has nurtured families and communities across generations. Their lives and voices matter at the center of this work.
We also stand on lived experience, formal learning, and the knowledge we continue to seek. Together, these foundations guide how we show up, how we practice, and how we hold the trust placed in our hands.
Our Lineage
This work was shaped long before it had a name or became a business.
It lives in the women who knew how to tend to someone: mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, teachers, and neighbors. Women who shared what they knew across kitchen tables, in birth rooms, and through the ordinary work of keeping a family cared for.
They taught us that care can be a hand on your shoulder and a meal on the table. It can be speaking up when someone needs support, making room for rest, or staying close through a difficult season. Practical acts can carry deep love.
LaVon Purpose carries that understanding forward with gratitude. We draw from the wisdom passed to us, keep learning, and make space for each person’s own story and traditions.
None of this began with us. We are part of its continuation.
Our Foundation
The care we offer is guided by commitments we can be held to:
Consent. We ask before we act, explain your options, and respect your answer.
Autonomy. You make the decisions about your body, family, home, and life. Our role is to support you in them.
Clear scope. We are honest about what we are trained to offer and when another professional is needed.
Evidence-informed guidance. We keep learning, share sound information, and remain open to new understanding.
Cultural respect. Your lived experience, beliefs, and traditions belong in conversations about your care.
Privacy and integrity. We handle what you share with care and follow through on the trust you place in us.
LaVon Purpose does not replace medical or therapeutic care. With your permission, we can work alongside the people supporting you and help you find a referral when your needs extend beyond our role.
Sacred work requires structure. These commitments are how we give our care something steady to stand on.

The Water Phoenix
At the heart of LaVon Purpose lives a symbol of return.
Our Water Phoenix takes the familiar image of a bird rising again and gives it wings made of water. For us, water speaks to the womb, intuition, memory, and the life that flows through generations. It can hold us gently and still be powerful enough to change the shape of things.
The phoenix speaks to the many times a woman may find herself becoming. Through birth, loss, healing, a changing home, or a new sense of purpose, she may discover parts of herself she has never met before and return to parts she thought she had lost.
Not every renewal looks like a dramatic rise. Sometimes it begins with rest. Sometimes with release, a question, or the courage to take one more step. The currents in our phoenix’s wings remind us that change can move at its own pace.
This symbol also holds our lineage: the women whose care and wisdom reached us, and those who will carry something forward after us.
The Water Phoenix is more than our emblem. It is a reminder that becoming is not a single moment. We can return to ourselves, and we can rise, as many times as life asks. -

Our Training & Education
The care at LaVon Purpose is shaped by ancestral wisdom, formal study, and continued learning.
Our collective brings together birth and postpartum doulas, a licensed clinical social worker, a licensed massage therapist, and holistic practitioners. Our areas of training include special education, childbirth education, lactation support, womb wellness, coaching, Reiki, and CPR instruction. Each person brings their own qualifications and works within their professional scope.
We value what has been passed down to us, and we stay curious about what we still need to learn. We study, reflect on our practice, and seek guidance or referrals when a person’s needs call for expertise beyond our own.
Care is a responsibility we take seriously.
Our Partnerships & Advocacy
LaVon Purpose is stewarded by Amani and strengthened through relationships with licensed and trained professionals who share our commitment to thoughtful, ethical care.
We are committed to the health, safety, and advocacy of Black women. This commitment is not symbolic. It shapes how we prepare, whom we partner with, and how we show up when someone needs support.
Black women have too often had their concerns dismissed in healthcare spaces. We make room for questions, help women understand their options, and support them in speaking for themselves. When invited, we stand beside them and work with their care teams within our role.
This sanctuary welcomes women from many walks of life. Our commitment to culturally informed care and to Black women’s well-being remains clear. Everyone deserves to be heard and treated with dignity; we know that making that possible takes attention and action.
As LaVon Purpose grows, we will keep building relationships with people who bring both professional skill and care for the communities we serve.
Advocacy is a responsibility we carry into the work.
